Asking what is libertarianism is more like asking what distinguishes Georgetown from Foggy Bottom than asking how the White House fits together. Libertarianism is a body of related views; it has the unity of a neighborhood more so than a house.

There are such things as libertarian conclusions. Libertarians conclude, for one reason or another, that each individual ought to be imbued with a wide sphere of personal and economic rights against interference from others, that such rights cannot easily be overridden, and that the justifiable role of government is small. (The government may not be small in other ways, but it will be small in scope.) Libertarians get to these conclusions in different ways. But that’s what libertarians believe in a nutshell.

Ever since I became a libertarian, I’ve always been enamored by the writings of Murray51m3nbxysol-_sx331_bo1252c204252c203252c200_ Rothbard. For those who are unfamiliar with him, he is often referred to as “Mr. Libertarian.” This is no surprise as he did more than any other person in the liberty movement to bring about a revival in radical liberal ideas. He was the ultimate polymath, writing over 20 books on economics, political theory, history, and philosophy. Jeff Deist, the current President of the Mises Institute, states that his bibliography is currently 63 pages long! He made major contributions in Austrian Economics, anarchism, and historical revisionism. He was the originator of the term anarcho-capitalism, and was a co-founder of both the Cato Institute and the Ludwig von Mises Institute. While there are areas of his thought I personally disagree with him on (which will probably end up being a post in it of itself)…

China’s first all-electric cargo ship will transport coal

China, already the world’s biggest electric-vehicle market, is now using battery power to fuel cargo shipping as well, reports Quartz Media.

A Chinese company has built a 2,000 metric-ton (2,204 tons) all-electric cargo ship, which was launched from the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou in mid-November, according to state-run newspaper People’s Daily.

The 70-meter long (229 feet) and 14-meter wide (45 feet) ship is equipped with over 1,000 lithium batteries, with a total capacity of 2,400 kilowatt-hours.

By comparison, Tesla’s Model X is equipped with a 100-kWh battery that allows it to drive nearly 570 kilometers (350 miles).
