Malcolm Fraser passed today. Like Margaret Thatcher, he was a great prime minister because he kept the Labor Party out of office until they were sane again.
Thatcher said that her greatest achievement was keeping the British Labour Party out of office when it had insane policies. Sadly, Fraser never came to realise that that was his greatest contribution as Prime Minister of Australia from 1975 to 1983.

He only had to wait and he would have romped in but he couldn’t and like many a conservative made havoc with the traditions of office.
He never understood how to combat stagflation. He either had to recess the economy alah Volcker or Thatcher or have a successful incomes policy.
He finished with with stagflation much worse than under Whitlam.
Great on the social issues though. Refugees, racism, championing democracy, Aborigines indeed he is well to the ‘left’ of both parties today.
