The best-kept secret about economics is that its most famous practitioners are its least proficient. Most of what the general public knows about economics falls under the rubric of macroeconomics. That is another way of saying it is wrong, or at least wrong-headed. Meanwhile, microeconomics is the well-developed, solidly upholstered sibling of macroeconomics. It contains the body of general economic theory. It was born at least a couple centuries before macroeconomics had its modern unveiling. Today microeconomics lives a cloistered life behind ivy-covered walls, seduced from its cozy residence inside textbooks by the lectures of a select priesthood.
