Alexis Tsipras is prostrating himself before the creditors with his new offer & asking for mercy. But even this may not be enough.
The Greek PM has adopted with very few changes the deal that he told the people to reject in last Sunday’s referendum. They voted OXI (NO) but he’s now advocating NAI (YES). That’s a tough sell which will probably split his Syriza party. Tsipras’ will probably have to form some new formal/informal coalition with the opposition or call elections.
Tsipras may try to dupe the people into believing he has got debt relief, something that wasn’t in original package. It’s not in the new official proposal either. But it is contained in the preamble explaining the proposal that has been sent to the Greek parliament. That said, I imagine MPs and creditors will be smart enough to spot the doublespeak.
