To add to the below, half the people shot by police when carrying what turned out to be a toy weapon were showing signs of mentally illness.

I’m not saying that all of the 199 people shot dead by police were suicidal. Many may well have been suicidal and most suspects showing the signs of mental illness are less likely to comply with the instructions of armed police. Lack of judgement is part of their mental illness.
