When I lectured in economics at Temple University Japan, I found out that not only could I get a free textbook if I described a textbook to 10 students, I would also get all my notes written for me in an instructor’s guide, PowerPoint slides and a test bank. The textbook company induces you to subscribe their book by taking as much of your workload off you and transferring it to them.
Prof. Henry Farrell had written a scathing piece on textbook racket, particularly the economic ones. Core, the free economics textbook by INET institute adds to the discussion.
