What ‘getting ready for Summer’ means in South Australia & Victoria.
As Summer approaches, Australia’s wind and solar obsession means more mass blackouts are guaranteed.
During January 2018, load shedding caught power consumers short in South Australia, Victoria and NSW. On the Australia Day long-weekend in January 2019, the barbecue stopper was that week’s round of what’s euphemistically called “demand management”: Soviet era power rationing, an integral part of Australia’s ludicrous attempt to run on sunshine and breezes. the blackouts were caused by coal fired power stations breaking down as they always do under very high temperatures. highly ironic.
Very soviet union on this blog completely changes why the blackouts occurred.

what units break down when it is very hot. you do know they broke down once every three days last year and that is an improvement on their ‘reliability’.

Can’t talk about other countries but here in OZ any possible blackouts is because of this very cause not because of wind or solar power
you cannot dsmit to the unreliability of coal fired power stations nor to their unreliability because their units breakdown with monotonous ‘reliability’.

Sorry but I believe in market forces. If wind power is viable in those places then they are built. If something else is more profitable than that will be built.coal stations even new ones are unreliable and break down.

well there should be a price on carbon for the negative externalities but a subsidy is second best. It is essentially the same cost as old coal here and wil go under old coal costs very soon as solar PV already has
