2% are faceblind

2% of people suffer from this inability to recognise faces including Stephen Fry! I thought in his business you have to be able to spot faces.

I have the opposite syndrome of name deafness. Great at remembering faces but terrible at remembering names especially when put under pressure to remember them face-to-face.

The reason why I do not read novels is I cannot remember the names of the characters. But if I read a technical article I remember the names of the authors and people discussed in it.

Switched successfully to blogging with @OpenLiveWriter

I have downloaded Open Live Writer as a replacement to Live Writer as my blog writing tool. This open source software has none of the bugs of the program it was based on.

image

In an oddity, an entrepreneurial gap in the market, until now I have been unable to find a decent blog writing tool. Microsoft Office has a blog template but is wholly inadequate because it cannot program blogs into the future nor tag them. Currently does not work at all as a blogging tool because of some memory space problem.

Live Writer was slow to open, freezers for a minute or two when I post a blog and is slow to close. It frequently freezes for no particular reason at all and interacts poorly with my voice dictation software. I cannot use my voice dictation software when Live Writer is loading of post up to my blog, which often takes more time than it needs because it freezes when it does that.

Open Live Writer has none of these problems and works quite smoothly. I recommend it.

The cycling community is rather intolerant of criticism @JKruppster

My blog post on bicycles must go at night attracted a fair degree of personal abuse from the cycling sub-reddit. Another local economist is going where angels fear to tread.

Bicyclists do not like evidence-based road safety policy

Bicyclists get very upset when they are told about the dangers. They immediately resort to personal abuse about my post arguing that bicycles at night should be banned.

This anger is another reason why bikes must go. Bicyclists are surly people who respond aggressively when they should do more reserved and careful.

@GreenCatherine I’ve been banned from the Conservative sub-Reddit

In a perfectly balanced sample, I have been banned from the Conservatives sub-Reddit for being a left-wing troll and from the New Zealand and Australian sub-Reddits for being a right-wing troll.

Add to that, I am blocked on Twitter by both the Minister of Health and the Green party spokesman on health. Must be doing something right.

November ’15 – NZ blogs sitemeter ranking

With 68,618 page views in November 2015, my blog is the sixth most viewed New Zealand blog.

I am having technical difficulties getting added to this list despite considerable assistance by open parachute blog.

There are about 300 blogs on the list, although I am weeding out those which are no longer active or have removed public access to sitemeters. (Let me know if I weed out yours by mistake or get your stats wrong).

Every month I get queries from people wanting their own blog included. I encourage and am happy to respond to queries but have prepared a list of frequently asked questions (FAQs) people can check out. Have a look at NZ Blog Rankings FAQ. This is particularly helpful to those wondering how to set up sitemeters. Please note, the system is automatic and relies on blogs having sitemeters which allow public access to the stats.

Here are the rankings of New Zealand blogs with publicly available statistics for November 2015. Ranking is by visit numbers. I have listed the blogs in the table below, together with monthly visits and page view numbers…
