I’m a big fan of live albums, but I know a lot of people aren’t exactly too keen on them. In general, live albums are thought of as inferior. After all, there’s at least an 80% chance that you’re gonna be disappointed…and pissed off that you wasted your valuable coin.
Even though I’m a fan of live records, I’ll admit that you’re probably right.
Why do the artists record them? Consider this: live albums are cheap to produce and are a good way to keep the artists’ name in lights until the next record. The only other project that gives the artists as much bang for their buck is a Christmas album; it doesn’t cost a ton of money and keeps the cash register ringing year after year.
