The online book seller AbeBooks recently sold a complete 8-issue run of the British Gazette for £8,030. As Chancellor of the Exchequer in the Stanley Baldwin government, Winston Churchill played a controversial role in the General Strike of 1926 and served as the editor of the British Gazette. The copies sold by AbeBooks are signed by Churchill, Baldwin, and John C.C. Davidson, M.P. During the strike Davidson was the deputy chief civil commissioner and was responsible for the government’s publicity efforts, including “overseeing the activities of Winston Churchill and the British Gazette.” Further information on the sale is are available here.

Churchill was a vastly overrated politician. Between the wars he was ordinary. A very poor chancelor.
He was a woeful PM after the war. his best years was before WW1
