I worked with a science teacher who subscribed to creationism. Her family strictly observed their faith. She taught biology to students in a special education program. These were impoverished students with scant literacy. She was their primary source of science information. This wasn’t in some rural backwater 40 years ago, either. This was in a major East Coast city and as far as I know, she still teaches.
At least half of the employees of the urban schools at which I worked were deeply religious, some to the point of believing prayer would help reverse a person’s disability.

Fundamentalist teachers were a problem when I left university decades ago. May be getting worse. Don’t know for sure.
