Given the work schedule of these performers, along with the rate of injury and storied use of painkillers and performance enhancers, this shouldn’t be surprising. Most have unusually large bodies they put through highly unusual stress. Contemporary performers engage in riskier performances than performers of the 1980s and early 1990s, so this situation may well continue through another generation.
