The Arrogance of Intellectuals

Green Jihad

During an interview on Firing Line, economist, author and political philosopher Friedrich Hayek explained why intellectuals resent capitalism. Capitalism, Hayek explains, relies on the ability to disseminate and gain knowledge. As author and economist Thomas Sowell points out, intellectuals hate the idea that anyone other than them can use and enhance their lives from knowledge.

Consequently, people like Karl Marx, Paul Krugman, Paul Ehrlich, Noam Chomsky, (more recently) Yaron Brook and even environmentalists embrace policies or political positions geared to maintain their so-called status at the expense of the people they claim they want to save or help. In short, intellectuals are the very people who claim to have solutions to problems they themselves make up or ultimately know nothing about.
